私が一番悩んだ箇所です。「On the other side of fame」はふた通りの意味が含まれていると解釈してみました。

そのひとつは有名なスターの背後に存在する無数のしがない歌い手（troubadou＝吟遊詩人）とする解釈です。そうであるなら、スターに目を奪われている私たちが気付かずにいる数多の無名の芸能人と訳せます。

もうひとつは「On the other side of fame」を「富や名声を目的として歌を唄う」その行為の裏腹にある結果のことだと解釈出来はしないでしょうか。商業主義に走ってヒット曲の数々を送り出すスターが、そのスターが本来持っていた過敏なほどの感受性が、いつのまにか経済優先の単なるヒットメーカーに成り下がり、名声を勝ち取り続けるために、彼自身の感受性が消滅してゆくさま、を予感するのではないでしょうか。

日本語に訳すだけでなく、日本語で解説するのも結構苦労する曲がありますが、この曲もそのひとつかと思います。Nickel Songでも云えることですが、社会での理不尽なことを端的に掻い摘まんで、しかも詩的表現をもってして唄に仕上げるというメラニーの感性に驚いてしまいます。曲自体は Phil Ochs のものですが、この歌詞は状況からしてメラニーが十代半ば過ぎに、すでに社会から感じ取ったことを表現したのだと思います。（20160813）
